Tebet — Amid growing public concerns about the current condition and future direction of Indonesia, a group of friends and alumni decided to create a warm and meaningful discussion space. Not to spread pessimism or blame, but to share perspectives, exchange ideas, and maintain hope together.
That spirit gave birth to Diskusi di Tebet (“Discussion in Tebet”), which held its first gathering on Wednesday evening, May 6, 2026, at Baca Di Tebet — Library & Community Space.
Carrying the theme “Our Economy Today”, the discussion featured Prof. Ferry Latuhihin and was attended by participants from various professional backgrounds. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, yet filled with thoughtful and critical conversations about the many challenges currently faced by Indonesian society.
From his point of view, Prof. Ferry Latuhihin expressed concern that economic pressures and uncertainty may continue even if global oil prices decline. According to him, the current situation should not be seen merely as a temporary cycle, but as a challenge that could evolve into medium- and even long-term crises if not handled carefully and strategically.
He also highlighted concerns regarding the MBG program, emphasizing that even if implemented with proper nutritional standards and good intentions, the program should still be viewed primarily as consumption spending rather than long-term investment. He stressed the importance of balancing social assistance programs with productive economic policies that strengthen national resilience and public independence.
The interactive discussion between the speaker and participants became one of the highlights of the evening. Questions, opinions, and critical responses flowed dynamically throughout the session, creating a warm yet intellectually sharp atmosphere. Participants openly exchanged views on economic conditions, governance, public trust, and the social impact felt by ordinary citizens.
One of the participants, Aloysius Sardoko, shared his view that people today expect the government to focus more on efficiency and the quality of public policies.
“People simply hope that state policies genuinely benefit society and are implemented professionally. Transparency and effectiveness are essential to maintaining public trust,” he said.
Although many serious national issues were discussed, the gathering remained warm, friendly, and full of positive energy. Laughter and light moments naturally blended into the discussion, making the forum feel both insightful and comforting.
Jeni Suryanti, host of the event and Chairwoman of ASJB (Alumni SMA Jakarta Bersatu), emphasized the importance of maintaining solidarity and social awareness during challenging times.
“We must not lose hope. In times like these, solidarity and mutual cooperation become even more important. Through conversations like this, we strengthen one another and look for constructive ways forward,” she said.
She concluded the evening with the spirit that inspired the forum: “One Spirit, Moving Forward Together.”
Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants, Diskusi di Tebet is expected to become a regular monthly forum — a simple yet meaningful space where people can openly share ideas, think together, and continue nurturing hope for a better Indonesia.
