ASJB East Jakarta collaborated with Lions Club, PMI and JW Resto in a humanitarian blood donation drive, with plans to continue the initiative every three months.
JAKARTA, Indonesia — A spirit of solidarity and community service marked a blood donation drive organized by Alumni SMA Jakarta Bersatu (ASJB) East Jakarta Regional Chapter in collaboration with Lions Club, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and JW Resto on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at JW Resto in East Jakarta.
The initiative brought together community members willing to contribute to a humanitarian cause while strengthening cooperation among organizations committed to social responsibility.
A total of 146 participants registered for the event. Of these, 133 proceeded through the initial screening process and medical examination, while 33 were unable to donate because their hemoglobin (Hb) levels were below the required threshold.
Ultimately, 100 participants successfully donated blood, fulfilling all 100 blood collection bags provided by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
The achievement marked the completion of the available collection target and demonstrated the importance of public participation in supporting blood donation initiatives.
Collaboration That Turns Good Intentions into Action
The event reflected ASJB East Jakarta’s commitment to translating community solidarity into practical action.
In addition to supporting coordination, ASJB East Jakarta provided personnel to assist with blood glucose checks and participant registration. These contributions helped support the smooth running of the event alongside the roles of its collaborating partners.
Susy Prabandari, Chairperson of ASJB East Jakarta, expressed her appreciation for the collaboration and the opportunity to contribute to the community.
“We are grateful that the blood donation drive went smoothly and that we were given the opportunity to share with others through this humanitarian initiative. Our sincere thanks go to Lions Club and JW Resto for giving ASJB East Jakarta the opportunity to collaborate. We hope this partnership will continue to grow and bring greater benefits to the community.”
The collaboration illustrates how organizations can combine their respective resources and capabilities to support a common social objective. Rather than working independently, community groups can create greater opportunities for meaningful public service by working together.
Every Donation Matters, but Donor Safety Comes First
Blood donation is a vital humanitarian activity because donated blood is needed for patients undergoing surgery, people experiencing serious injuries, and individuals requiring transfusions for various medical conditions.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a regular supply of safe blood depends on the participation of healthy, voluntary donors and reliable blood collection services. Medical screening is essential to protect both donors and recipients.
At the ASJB East Jakarta event, the 33 participants who could not proceed because of low hemoglobin levels were an important reminder that the willingness to donate must always be accompanied by medical eligibility.
Although they could not donate on this occasion, their participation reflected a willingness to help others. They may have an opportunity to donate in the future if their health meets the applicable requirements.
The event therefore highlighted two equally important principles: encouraging public participation and maintaining appropriate health standards for blood donation.
A Commitment to Continue Every Three Months
Beyond the immediate results, ASJB East Jakarta hopes to make the blood donation initiative a sustainable community program.
The organizers plan to continue the collaboration every three months, creating regular opportunities for community members to participate in humanitarian activities.
ASJB East Jakarta also expressed its appreciation to Lions Club and JW Resto for their support and cooperation, with the hope that the partnership will continue and develop further.
Regular activities can help foster a culture of giving, strengthen relationships among community organizations, and encourage people to contribute according to their abilities.
For ASJB, an alumni network can serve a purpose beyond maintaining friendships and professional connections. It can also become a platform for social engagement and community service.
From Community Spirit to Lasting Social Impact
The October 14 blood donation drive demonstrated how a shared commitment can be transformed into a measurable outcome: 146 registrations, 133 participants proceeding through the initial screening process, and 100 successful blood donations, matching the number of collection bags available.
More importantly, the event laid the groundwork for continued cooperation among ASJB East Jakarta, Lions Club, and JW Resto.
The organizers hope that future initiatives will maintain this momentum, attract wider participation, and expand the benefits of community involvement.
Ultimately, humanitarian work is not defined solely by the number of participants or donations collected. It is also about building trust, sustaining partnerships, and creating opportunities for people to help one another.
Through this initiative, ASJB East Jakarta reaffirmed its commitment to community service and to the belief that small acts of generosity, when carried out collectively and consistently, can make a meaningful difference.
