BEKASI — As the time for breaking the fast approached, the atmosphere at Kampung Pemulung Pekayon in Bekasi felt warmer than usual. On Tuesday afternoon (March 10, 2026), dozens of members of the Alumni Association of SMA Jakarta Bersatu (ASJB) Bekasi Regional Chapter arrived carrying rice meal boxes and takjil (light snacks for breaking the fast) to be distributed to people in need.
The Ramadan social service activity began at 4:30 PM (WIB), starting with the distribution of charity rice meals and takjil in Kampung Pemulung Pekayon. Residents, many of whom work as waste pickers, welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm.
The group then continued their outreach to the Galaxy Bekasi area, where online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojek online) were still busy completing orders ahead of the iftar time. At this location, rice boxes and takjil were distributed to the drivers, as well as to local residents and underprivileged individuals in the area.
Each package distributed was valued at around Rp25,000, containing food and drinks for breaking the fast. Though simple, the packages symbolized the spirit of care and solidarity that ASJB alumni seek to foster during the holy month of Ramadan.
More than 20 ASJB members participated and were directly involved in the activity.
Rita, Daily Chair of ASJB Bekasi Regional Chapter, said the social service event was organized not only to assist the community but also to strengthen the bonds among members.
“The main reason for organizing this activity is to share with others while also building stronger unity among our members. Ramadan is the perfect moment to strengthen our sense of togetherness,” she explained.
The social activity was followed by a communal iftar gathering of the Bekasi chapter at The Grit, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The event became even more festive as members also celebrated the birthday of one of their colleagues, Mulyana, who received a surprise from fellow alumni.
Jeni Suryanti, Chairwoman of ASJB, expressed her appreciation for the initiative taken by the Bekasi chapter. According to her, social actions like this show that an alumni community can be more than just a place for networking and reunions—it can also bring meaningful benefits to society.
“I am very proud of the initiative shown by our friends in ASJB Bekasi. Activities like this reflect the spirit of togetherness and social care that are important values within the ASJB family,” Jeni said.
Through this initiative, ASJB hopes that the spirit of sharing during Ramadan will not only remain an annual tradition but will also grow into a broader movement of social compassion within the community.
Amid the busyness of city life, the simple act of distributing charity rice meals and takjil serves as a reminder that happiness often comes from small things—a meal to break the fast, a grateful smile from the recipient, and the sense of togetherness among those who choose to share.
